Last year at the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) ICAST awards, St Croix managed to snag three different Best Of Show prizes.

With the hundreds of different fishing rod manufacturers out there, this should tell you something about the quality and performance of these rods.

No matter how, where or when you plan to fish there is a St Croix fishing rod that is going to get the job done for you.

In this article, I am going to review a few of the St Croix fishing rods models that really stand out including the award winners and even St Croix ice fishing rods. You’re pretty much covered for the entire year.

St Croix Legend Glass Casting Rods

Summary for box: Winner of the ICAST Best of Show for the Freshwater Division, these super premium 100% Linear S-Glass St Croix fishing rods are sure to last you years.

When you are throwing light bait or lures, you generally are happy with any distance you get. You don’t expect much in other words.

In the case of the Legend Glass, your expectations will be shattered. Use this Saint Croix fishing rod when you need to get out past the breakers while still using lightweight lures. Or maybe you need to place a lure out to a rip on a river.

Wherever you need to cast, it will be smooth and accurate. Practice it a bit and you will be surprised how quickly you are able to start making the most accurate casts of your life with these Saint Croix fishing rods.

Super light in weight, these Saint Croix fishing rods are designed for fishing all types and sizes of crankbaits and other lures that benefit when matched with a moderate-action rod.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is a cheap rod because it is fiberglass. These Saint Croix rods are nothing at all similar to their fiberglass counterparts. The S-Glass used in the new Legend Glass series is a highly refined fiber. It bears very little resemblance to glass of the past. It’s lighter, stronger, and more precise as well as sensitive.

The Fuji K Series guides and super-grade cork handle allow you to feel everything your lure is doing.

It’s all about control and you have more of it when you use the Legend Glass no matter which version you end up with.

St. Croix Legend Black Ice Fishing Rod

Summary for box: The Legend Black allows ice anglers to see the most subtle bump or strike well before it can be felt. This is essential when you are ice fishing.

Another facet of the Legend Glass series is the Black St Croix ice fishing rods to keep you on the fish year-round.

They are especially good for open-water fishing but can be used for other types of fishing too.

Its uniqueness lies in its sensitivity levels, sensing even the softest of fish strikes. When fish are lethargic under the ice, they aren’t exploding on your bait or lure. They gulp very subtly and the hits are easy to miss.

It has the adjustability with the interchangeable spring indicator system. That is what makes this rod more sensitive than others on the market. This lets ice anglers notice the smallest nibbles and catch that fish before you even feel it.

The St Croix ice fishing rods in the Legend series are a perfect choice if you are looking for durability and sensitivity while fishing for those low-biting fish. These Legend rods can withstand the torture of ice fishing if it falls on the hard ice or bending almost in half. These rods will bounce right back because of the graphite blank that they’re made of.  Their sensitivity derives from the unique spring coiled strike indicator system that they are all equipped with.

St Croix Mojo Yak Spinning Fishing Rod

Summary for box: Finally a premium rod that is specifically designed for kayak fishermen! It combines the framework of the Mojo series with updated components.

The Mojo Yak is chock-full of features for the kayak angler, improving its performance while overcoming the common challenges of fishing in the tight confines of a kayak.

Possibly the most impressive area of the Mojo Yak design is the handle.

The rod’s handle was engineered for performance. To build an outstanding handle, St. Croix collaborated with Winn, a company known for polymer grip technology. The patented grip is tacky, shock absorbent, and comfortable, providing a positive grip in the wet or cold.

Shortening the Mojo Yak’s split-grip simplifies maneuvering a rod inside the boat. The rod’s butt end is rounded to prevent clothing snags. Eliminating these hangups lets you stay seated and still fish using topwater techniques. Kayak anglers spoke, and St. Croix listened.

St. Croix packed the Mojo Yak series with a generous array of kayak-specific characteristics, such as Kigan Master Hand 3D guides with slim, strong aluminum-oxide rings and black frames. The benefits of those guides are twofold. First, casting is accurate through the smooth guides even from a seated position. Second, they are strong enough to withstand the rigors of being bumped and banged around inside the cockpit of a kayak while you are trying to land a fish.

St Croix Premier Spinning Rods

Summary for box: A classic in the St Croix fishing rods lineup is the Premium spinning rod. Its fast action built for both the novice as well as the professional angler.

At only 1.5 pounds, you may wonder if it can hold up when you hook up with a strong, fighting fish. Don’t be alarmed as these Saint Croix fishing rods are made from the highest quality graphite.

Even the guides are Kigan make aluminum-oxide guides which are amazingly strong and resilient. They also offer up the smoothest casts giving you both distance and accuracy so you can place your bait or lure exactly where you think the fish want it.

St Croix fishing rods have also installed a Fuji DPS reel seat in the Premium Spinning Rod. This provides a comfortable base for your reel.

Its handle is made from premium grade cork, is soft and gives a great grip – perfect for when you are fighting a heavy fish. It remains sturdy; fits well with the rod and should be able to last as long as the rod itself.

It is available in different sizes, with different power ratings and different speeds. This makes it ideal for each and every fisherman who is looking for a brand new rod. Whether you are a beginner or an old pro, you’re sure to get what you are looking for. And it doesn’t matter if you plan to fish the salt or freshwater this can handle it. I would recommend getting several in the different versions so you are prepared for any type of fishing that comes up.

St Croix Eyecon Spinning Rod

Summary for box: If you are on a budget but still want the best, then the Eyecon is there for you. You get all the premium features at less than $100.

Kigan Master Hand 3D guides, split-grip/premium-grade cork handle with EVA trim and a mid-modulus graphite fiber blank that is lightweight and strong are features you would expect to pay a premium for.

For the same price as inferior fishing rods, you get state of the art St Croix fishing rods with all the bells and whistles.

The Eyecon series provides exceptional results when jigging, rigging, cranking and trolling whether you are out on the fresh or salt water.

There isn’t much else to say except that all the details of the other Saint Croix fishing rods reviewed above hold true for this economic version.

Summary

I can’t recommend these St Croix fishing rods enough. They are some of the best you can fish with and are not overpriced.
